Meeting Location: Greenbelt Native Plant Center parking lot

Description: Join the Greenbelt Native Plant Center for a seed paper making workshop! Attendees will learn to make plantable paper from recycled pulp embedded with native seeds. Attendees should dress in clothes that can get dirty and closed toe shoes. Face masks may be worn at your discretion. Space is limited and registration is required. This event is family-friendly! Meeting Location: Meet at the Greenbelt Native Plant Center Parking Lot

Time: 10am to 1pm

Description: Join the Greenbelt Native Plant Center’s Seed Increase Program (SIP) to help maintain the production plots in our Staten Island farm fields. The Seed Increase Program propagates and grows plots of plants from locally sourced populations for ecological restoration projects across the city. We will be preparing the plots for spring and fall planting. Additional tasks include plots weeding, spreading mulch, and cutting back last year’s growth. Tools will be provided. No prior knowledge about plants or farming is required. Come dressed in sturdy boots or shoes, long pants, and clothing that can get dirty. Space is limited and registration is required. Petition for NYC Parks Department to install compost bins in parks

We are asking NYC Council and the NYS Legislature to fund a composting system to recycle the fallen leaves, twigs and possibly food scraps, collected in our NYC parks like Owl's Head Park. We are aware that a list of Green Markets are open to people to drop off their food scraps. However, the groups that hold large parties at Owl's Head Park, for instance, do not and will never transport their food waste to these drop off locations. As promising as Big Reuse, a branch of the NYC Sanitation Dept. funded by NYC Council, has stepped in with an organized staff and composting structure, they are not involved with the Parks Dept. waste collections. This is a wasted opportunity to repurpose natural debris and food scraps from our parks. We are petitioning NYC Council and NYS Legislature to fund a composting system to recycle the fallen leaves, twigs and possibly food scraps, collected in our NYC parks like Owl's Head Park.
