For 30 years, NYRP has invested in and stewarded parks and gardens throughout the city’s five boroughs to strengthen communities.

Position Summary

NYRP is seeking an Urban Agriculture Coordinator (Coordinator)reporting to the Director of Urban Agriculture & Public Programming, thelp implement all facets of the NYRP Urban Agriculture ProgramThe Coordinator will serve as the team lead for stewardship of the NYRP Teaching Garden, which includes 22 large raised beds, a three-bin compost system, a mushroom log yard, and an edible food forest area. The Coordinator will also oversee programming in the Teaching Garden, including regular community volunteer days, visits from urban agriculture partners, and other more advanced training. The Coordinator may be called on to assist with educational programming at partner sites (i.e. community gardens, school gardens, urban farms, and growing spaces affiliated with community-based organizations) that the NYRP Urban Agriculture Program works with. They will also support general program operations, including work on a citywide Public Workshop series, as well as larger departmental initiatives and events.

The Forest Restoration Technician is a seasonal, field-based position focused on forest stewardship and restoration in Highbridge Park. This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy working outdoors and want to gain practical experience in urban natural area management, restoration, or forestry. The Forest Restoration Technician will assist with planting site preparation, planting, forest stewardship and monitoring in Highbridge Park. This position will directly contribute to the expansion and improvement of New York City’s forest. Additionally, the Forest Restoration Technician will support general park maintenance in Highbridge Park, Sherman Creek and The Harlem River Greenway.

The Forestry and Grounds Technician is a field-based position that supports the ecological health, safety, and appearance of Northern Manhattan parks under the direction of the Deputy Director of Northern Parks. The Technician delivers daily maintenance, arboriculture, and forest restoration work to ensure that NYRP parks are safe and welcoming.

NYRP improves, maintains, and programs open spaces in communities lacking adequate resources. Working on public and private land citywide, NYRP’s flexible approach to land management serves as a model for non-profit municipal engagement. Together with partners in city agencies, non-profit organizations, and local communities, NYRP demonstrates the social and environmental value of building ownership over open spaces.

The Seasonal Assistant Gardener will assist the Brooklyn Zone Gardener in the general maintenance of the Community Gardens that NYRP owns and operates in the Brooklyn and Queens area as well as participate in periodic Special Greening Projects across the 5 boroughs. The Seasonal Assistant Gardener will join an experienced operations team that works toward a more equitable and sustainable urban landscape, through garden maintenance, restoration, and public engagement. Ideal candidates will demonstrate a strong work ethic, an interest in sustainable management practices, comfort interacting with the public and enthusiasm for NYRP’s mission.

This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy working outdoors and want to gain experience in environmental work, forestry, gardening, landscaping, and park maintenance. Under the direction of the Deputy Director, Northern Manhattan Parks, the Assistant supports daily maintenance, basic tree and plant care, and public-facing operations to keep NYRP parks clean, safe, and welcoming.
