Master Composter Certificate Course
The Master Composter Certificate Course educates and empowers New Yorkers to get involved in community composting via education, outreach, advocacy and more. This advanced education and outreach program is open to New Yorkers who are at least 18 years of age. We are grateful that funding for this program was restored for FY26 from the City Council. Currently funding is through June 30, 2026.
The Master Composter Certificate Course workshops, field trips, and volunteer opportunities are led by many community composting organizations around the five boroughs of NYC and you can participate in activities at a variety of locations.
The LES Ecology Center administers the program in close coordination with the other organizations. Current workshop instructors include Snug Harbor, Queens Botanical Garden, Lower East Side Ecology Center, NYBG Bronx Green Up and Big Reuse.
